Homemade Parrot Toys

Today I took off from my usual day of doing tarot readings and casting horoscopes to join my friend Chan Quach, Chan the Bird Man, flying his parrots Bella and Rudy in Dolores Park in San Francisco. Chan trained the birds in free flight, similar to the art of falconry. Chan’s done a brilliant job with them. He trains then with discipline, and tames them with love. THE REAL MACAW!

Maybe you’ve seen or heard of the free flying macaws at Dolores Park in San Francisco. I came across them when I happened to be walking by and saw a crowd gathered under a massive magnolia tree on the corner of 20th Street and Church, next to the Muni J tracks. Everyone was looking up — sun bathers, tourists, picnickers, skaters, tech bros, families – astounded by a baby scarlet macaw perched on a magnolia branch.
