SPRING EQUINOX
Equal day and equal night.
First the dark and then the light.
March 20, 2025 at 2:01 am PT is Spring Equinox when the Sun enters Fire sign Aries to begin the astrological solar year. The Sun rises due east and crosses directly over the equator whereby Earth’s two hemispheres equally receive the Sun’s rays. In the northern hemisphere, winter becomes spring. In the southern hemisphere, autumn has arrived.
There is more daylight than darkness at Equinox, about eight more minutes at mid-temperate latitudes. More than twelve hours of daylight on Equinox is because the Sun is a disc, not a point. Plus there is atmospheric refraction because Earth’s atmosphere refracts (bends) sunlight. But still a day for balance as the seasonal wheel turns.
Happy Equinox!
Such a lovely explanation of the spring equinox today, Susan. Thank you so much. A lot of good things happened today!
