2015 SHEEP, GOAT, OR RAM?

2015 SHEEP, GOAT, OR RAM?

SHEEP, GOAT, OR RAM? Many people ask me if 2015 Chinese New Year is the Sheep, Goat, or Ram. Some translations refer to Sheep as Ram or Goat. This can be misleading. Ram is a yang symbol of masculinity, but Sheep is essentially yin. Ram could be confused with the western sign Aries the Ram, but Sheep aren’t know for their pioneering spirit like Aries. Aries correlates to the Chinese sign Dragon. Goat may bring to mind the western sign Capricorn the Goat, but Sheep rarely possess the drive to ascend to the mountaintop like Capricorn who correlates to the Chinese sign Ox. Sheep...

Year of the Horse 2014

Posted by on Jan 24, 2014 in Animals, Astrology, Chinese Astrology, New Moon | 2 comments

Thursday January 30 at 1:38 pm PST is a new Moon that begins the year of the Horse. Note that the hour will vary in different locations around the world, and some calendars list January 31 as Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is a spring festival that occurs on the second new Moon after Winter Solstice. This new Moon begins both Horse year and Tiger month. Tiger brings powerful energy that gets Horse year started with a bang! Horse and Tiger are best friends, along with Dog, so right away Horse energy is in synch. Even retrograde planets won’t slow down the lively energy of Horse and...

Homemade Parrot Toys

Today I took off from my usual day of doing tarot readings and casting horoscopes to join my friend Chan Quach, Chan the Bird Man, flying his parrots Bella and Rudy in Dolores Park in San Francisco. Chan trained the birds in free flight, similar to the art of falconry. Chan’s done a brilliant job with them. He trains then with discipline, and tames them with love. In this picture, Chan is kissing Bella, a scarlet macaw. In my pic Rudy, a green wing macaw, is leaning in for more kisses! Under Chan’s protective care, Rudy and Bella are strikingly beautiful to see in flight. They...

TAROT and ANIMALS

Sometimes a tarot reader, or someone who is learning tarot, tells me that they do not feel clear enough to pick their own tarot cards. Either they are too attached to the outcome and are nervous about it, or they fear that they’ll keep picking cards until they get the answer they want. In these instances, your animal companion can help you! If you wish to include your pet in your tarot process, willing animals can be trained or gently persuaded to select tarot cards. Shuffle your cards, cut, and lay out the cards in a half-moon shape. Then ask your pet cat, dog, bird, serpent, or other...

February 2 Candlemas — Divination with Animals

Posted by on Feb 1, 2013 in Animals, Solar Holidays | 0 comments

HAPPY CANDLEMAS 2013! February 2 is Candlemas, also known as Imbolc or Michaelmas. Today marks the point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Candlemas is an auspicious day for divination with all types of animals — not just groundhogs! Contemplate a question that has a yes/no solution, then start observing the movement of animals. So take some time today to observe nature, and get a second opinion from the creatures that surround us. My favorite form of animal divination is ornithomancy, divination from the flight of birds. A bird flying to the right means yes, to the left...

THE REAL MACAW!

THE REAL MACAW!

Maybe you’ve seen or heard of the free flying macaws at Dolores Park in San Francisco. I came across them when I happened to be walking by and saw a crowd gathered under a massive magnolia tree on the corner of 20th Street and Church, next to the Muni J tracks. Everyone was looking up — sun bathers, tourists, picnickers, skaters, tech bros, families – astounded by a baby scarlet macaw perched on a magnolia branch. It appeared as if someone’s pet got loose and flew away when its clipped wings grew out. So I pulled my house keys out of my pocket and shook them to get the...
