TAROT One-Card Wonder

I received an email from a tarot student who was driving herself crazy by pulling cards about a relationship. In her own words, “I have pulled too many cards and I’m in a bad place now.” This is not so unusual. People tend to keep selecting cards until they get the card that they really want. I joke that when it comes to relationships, don’t just keep picking until you get THE LOVERS! So what to do? I recommended a tarot diet about this relationship by limiting the tarot to one card a day for 30 days. Then that one card will have more force because it’s...

Tarot is an exciting tool for divination, a magical symbolic language that can show us direction in life. But sometimes it can feel overwhelming or intimidating to address your questions and concerns to the tarot. A way to be more at peace before you even start shuffling the cards is to think about your questions before you ask them. Say them out loud, write them down, or communicate about them on some level. Then elevate your questions by raising them to the highest form possible. Too often tarot cards are used to answer questions that are based on fear, such as “Does my...

PICASSO: SCORPIO METAL SNAKE

Today I went with my friend Eugene to see the Pablo Picasso paintings and sculptures from the National Picasso Museum in Paris that are currently at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The show is fascinating; go if you can. Picasso (1881-1973) was a sexual and passionate Scorpio born in the year of the intense, shamanic Metal Serpent. The numerology of his birthdate Oct 25, 1881 = 17 The Star in Tarot, which reduces to card #8 Strength. And how strong he was! This Picasso exhibition is full of his many lovers. His painting style changes for each one of them. Here is...

Channel 4, a British television production company, called me yesterday afternoon and asked if I would do a tarot card reading for Brian, one of the men in their entourage. They’d just finished shooting in the wine country and wanted to squeeze in a tarot card reading in San Francisco. I told them that Brian should prepare three questions for the cards, that there is no such thing as a silly or stupid question if it is a sincere concern, and perhaps Brian would prefer privacy for his tarot reading. But there was no privacy; Brian arrived with three large cameras and ten people. Turns...

Tarot Iconography and Book of Kells

In the morning I often follow along w/ a PBS TV exercise show “Classical Stretch.” It’s just fluid stretching, which is perfect for a Pisces like me. The next show is a travel program Burt Wolf Travels and Traditions, which I rarely watch but today was his trip was to Ireland so I check it out. Literature was the topic for most of the show. Also featured was the Book of Kells at Trinity College in Dublin, with a close-up of the famous page with the four apostles of Jesus Christ in composite human and animal forms. And like most things Catholic, I thought HOW PAGAN! Matthew...
